ELF Flawless Finish foundation

In the continued hunt to find my holy grail foundation I picked up this ‘Flawless Finish’ foundation from ELF. The brand has only just started appearing in the UK, and I couldn’t contain my excitement when I saw it in my local Superdrug – of course I had to get something! As this is their bestselling foundation, it seemed like a good place to start!

Shade Selection
Available in a pretty decent 11 different shades, the selection ranges from Light Ivory to Espresso with my shade, ‘Natural’, the second lightest available. It looks like there would be a colour close enough to most skin tones with a good range of both lighter and deeper shades. Good job ELF!

At £7.50 it is also a very good price point. It only becomes only slightly depressing when you realise it’s several pounds cheaper over the pond.

The words ‘Oil-free’ were the biggest draw of this foundation. As someone constantly fighting an oily T-zone, the promise of an oil-free foundation is music to my ears. It promises to provide a “lightweight…long-lasting, beautiful semi-matte finish” – all good stuff!

Right off the bat, I want to say that this is not a high-coverage foundation. If that’s what you’re looking for then maybe give this one a pass. It has a medium coverage but is definitely buildable to a more medium-full coverage. It does a good job of covering my redness and any blemishes but concealer is definitely still needed for those dark under-eye circles!

No strong scent and a pump combine to make it an easy and pleasant product to use. It is also easy to apply, a damp sponge being my favourite way to do so.

In terms of longevity, I wouldn’t say it was the best. Lasting around 5 hours at the most, even with baking and setting spray, there are other foundations out there that will give you a longer-lasting finish. However, it does not curdle or separate on the skin throughout the day, so a few touch ups here and there with concealer throughout the day should be enough to see you through.

Interestingly, the instructions for the product itself state that you should re-apply every 2 hours. However, that may be more to do with the sun protection it promises, rather than longevity motivated. Indeed, the sun protection is another selling point of this foundation thanks to the SPF 15 sunscreen that it contains. Although a downside if you’re going to be using flash photography, this is great for anyone who knows they really should be wearing sunscreen but always tends to skip that step – guilty…

Overall, this is a great day to day foundation, very comparable with one of my other favourites – the Barry M Flawless Matte Finish foundation. Whilst not a go-to for a night out, the sun protection and natural finish that this product offers makes it a great option for light makeup days. The low price point and great shade selection definitely makes this foundation worth checking out!
